CONTROL-MONITOR SET, GUIDED WEAPON, AN/AWW-9B, P/N 1064AS4100

Organization:
NAVY - AS - Naval Air Systems Command
Year: 1994

Abstract: This specification establishes the design, performance, manufacture, and acceptance requirements for the Control-Monitor Set, Guided Weapon AN/AWW-9B herein referred to as the Pod. The Pod covered by this specification is for airborne use and performs as a major component part of the data link communication network, providing transmission of command signals and reception of video data, between a control aircraft and a WALLEYE guided weapon or Standoff Land Attack Missile. The equipment covered by this specification consists of one major assembly. Intended Use: The data link Pod, Control-Monitor Set, Guided Weapon AN/AWW-9B, is a major component part of the WALLEYE data link and Standoff Land Attack Missile weapon systems and provides two-way communication between a control aircraft and a guided weapon. The Pod is designed for suspension from a standard WALLEYE- configured bomb rack, and for emergency jettisonable carriage on either the centerline or inboard stores stations for a variety of high performance aircraft. Weapon control is accomplished from the cockpit via employment of a control unit and video monitor. The Pod receives cockpit control signals and transmits them as encoded RF signals from the Pod antenna to the weapon. Video signals from the weapon are received by the Pod and processed for display on the cockpit video monitor. The data link Pod will permit the control operator to monitor the flight of the weapon toward a target area and, if necessary, command the weapon to change its lock-on point after launch.
