Abstract: The scope of this technical report includes all of the elements necessary to provide a small, easily manageable SAN environment. This technical report is not oriented toward management of a large SAN by an IT department with SAN management experts. This technical report requires some features that are in the referenced ANSI/ INCITS standards.
This technical report identifies the mechanisms necessary for a management tool to promote successful management of a SAN. An additional objective of this technical report is to simplify implementations and their associated documentation, testing, and support requirements.
This technical report is applicable only to end devices that implement the SCSI-FCP FC-4. Implementations of other FC-4 protocols are not included in the scope of this technical report. This technical report is applicable only to FC_Ports that are not operating a loop port state machine (see FC-AL-2).
Internal characteristics of conformant implementations are not defined by this technical report. This technical report incorporates features from the standards and technical reports described in clause 2.
