description abstractThis performance specification covers the Governments TriCon Refrigerated Container System (TRCS). The TRCS is made up of two principle components:
A Triple Container (TriCon) sized (8-foot wide by 6-foot 5 and half inches long by 8 foot high), International Organization of Standardization (ISO) compliant, insulated container (referred to as "container") and an integrated refrigeration/freezing/heating unit (referred to as "RU") per:
• Type I - electrically powered RU with full width double door container
• Type II - diesel/electric powered RU with full width double door container
•Type III - electrically powered RU with a single man door, recessed operating handle container
For Type I and II, the TRCS doors will be located on the side of the container (6.5 foot dimension) to allow full access inside when the container is coupled. The RU will be located on the side opposite to the door. For type III, a single man door with self closing pull style door handle is required.
When the container and the RU are combined, this will be referred to as the "system". The container will include certain added features called out in this performance specification. (i.e. interior tie downs, horizontal A or E track, air strip curtains, etc...).Intended Use: The TRCS system is intended for use in the transportation of equipment and storage of non-perishables and perishables items (food) and other temperature sensitive commodities (human remains) requiring controlled temperature. These containers are based on commercial designs, manufactured using commercial processes, and are modified for military unique requirements for operation in an extreme environment, under conditions typically found on the battlefield.
