INSULATION SHEET AND TAPE; ELECTRICAL, COIL AND SLOT, HIGH TEMPERATURE

Organization:
NAVY - SH - Naval Sea Systems Command (Ship Systems)
Year: 1960

Abstract: This specification covers high temperature mica-glass electrical insulation used in the coils and slots of rotating electrical machinery.
High temperature coil and slot electrical insulation shall be of the following classes, forms, and types, as specified (see 6.2):
Class B -With organic varnish Class H -With silicone varnish Form S -Sheet (See 3.5.1). Form T -Tape (See 3.5.2). Type Mg. -Pasted mica laminated with one layer of glass fiber in- sulation. Type Pmg. -Pasted mica laminated with one layer of paper insula- tion on one side and one layer of glass fiber insula- tion on the other side. . Type Gmg. -Pasted mica sandwiched be- tween single layers of glass fiber insulation.

Intended Use: Class B material is used for generator, motor and transformer coils, slot liners and ground insulation, phase to phase insulation, phase and end insulation, primarily secondary separation, coil exteriors cable splices, coil and cell-wrapper tapes, and similar uses. The highest temperature (limiting "hottest spot" temperature) to which class B insulation may be subjected to continuously with normal life-expectancy is 130° C. Class H material is used for applications as specified in 6.1.1 and where the highest temperature (limiting "hottest spot" temperature) is 200° C. for normal life-expectancy.
