Abstract: This specification covers 7 types of 12-cylinder, 90° V-type, air-cooled, 4 stroke-cycle, turbo-supercharged, internal-combustion, compression-ignition (diesel) engines for use in military vehicles (see 6.1). Intended Use: The AVDS1790 series of engines as classified in 1.2 are intended to be used for production, as spares, or as replacements in military combat and tactical transport vehicles. These series of engines are military unique because they are used on military combat vehicles that must operate satisfactorily and reliably at extreme ambient temperatures of −65°F to 115°F.
