description abstractThis Standard describes the technical requirements and procedures necessary for the design, performance, and testing of new or unused non-rail-bound, diesel-powered, self-propelled machines for use in non-gassy underground mines. 
This Standard applies to machines of 45 000 kg mass or less that are designed to operate at a maximum rated speed of 32 km/h or less. 
Values specified in this Standard are given in SI (metric) units. 
Braking system performance requirements and proof tests are not inc,Jded in the scope of this Standard. Brake construction, stopping performance, and test requirements are included in CSA Standard M424.3, Braking Performance - Rubber-tired, Self-propelled Underground Mining Machines, for a wide variety of underground mining machines. 
In this Standard, "shall" indicates a mandatory requirement; "should" indicates a recommendation, or that which is advised but not mandatory. Notes accompanying clauses do not include mandatory or alternative requirements. The purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material that is not properly a part of the Standard. Notes to figures and tables are considered to be part of the figure or table and are written as mandatory requirements.
